THE PORI EEG HEADBAND SYSTEM.

This electroencephalographic electrode system provides quicker and simpler application than disc electrodes and offers the following advantages over competing systems.

. Electrode wires terminate to a db-25 quick disconnect connector and jumper to pins.

. The complete international 10 20 electrode set is used with all sizes

. Simple, effective fastners allow quick application and secure positioning without harnesses.

. Comfortable elastic straps with sliding electrodes allow precise electrode placement and easy cleaning.

. All electrodes are acessible for gelling with the included plastic tip syringe.

EEG HEADBAND INSTRUCTIONS For use with the following Pori Associates Headbands: Wide Straps (1/2") Narrow Straps (1/4") WB-1 Adult NB-1 Adult WB-1A Small Adult NB-2 Child WB-1L Large Adult NB-3 Neonatal WB-2 Child Placement of Headband and Electrodes: Electrodes may be placed by direct measurement according to the international 10-20 placement system. The straps will be positioned on the head and the electrodes slid on the straps to match the measurements. Place the clean and dry EEG band onto the patient's head with the electrode wires on the outside of the straps so that the wires are not between the band and the scalp. Pull the EEG band down over the head so that the intersections of the straps forms a "V" around the top of the ears, then fasten the blue velcro strips under the chin and the red velcro strips at the back of the neck. Position the straps as follows: NOTE: percentages given below are of distance measured in centimeters from the nasion to the inion over the top of the head. For example if the measurement is 31 cm., then each 10% measurement is 3.1 cm and each 20% measurement is 6.2 cm. First strap F7-FP1-G-FP2-F8 across forehead, 10% above nasion. Second strap F3-FZ-F4 across head 20% above first strap and 20% below third (vertex) strap. Third strap C3-CZ-C4 across vertex of the head from ear to ear, and exactly halfway between the first and last straps. Fourth strap P3-PZ-P4 20% below third (vertex) strap and 20% above fifth (occipital) strap. Fifth strap O1-G-O2 across the occipital portion of the head 10% above the inion. Position the electrodes over the marks on the elastic straps. Verify that the center electrodes of each strap are on the centerline of the head and that all other electrodes are placed properly and symmetrically on the head. GL-12 Conductive Shampoo: This is the electrode gel recommended for use with Pori Associates EEG Headbands. This gel is ONLY FOR USE WITH EEG HEADBANDS. It is not approved for use with spark generating devices such as defibrillators in combination with an oxygen rich atmosphere. Ingredients: Water, tea-lauryl sulfate, lauramide dea, linoleamide dea, dea lauryl sulfate, dea-lauraminopropionate, sodium lauraminopropionate, peg-10 sorbitan laurate, hydroxypropyl methycellulose, panthenol, hydrolyzed animal protein, honey, wheat germ oil, fragrance, citric acid, methylparaben, dmdm hydantoin, tetrasodium edta, d&c yellow no. 10, fd&c red no. 4. Application of Gel: Apply GL-12 conductive shampoo with the curved tip plastic syringe included with the EEG band. Always follow a standard sequence in gelling the electrodes so that none are overlooked. This sequence is suggested: Strap 1 FP2 - G - FP1 Strap 2 F4 - FZ - F3 Strap 3 C4 - CZ - C3 Strap 4 P4 - PZ - P3 Strap 5 O2 - G - O1 Across right side T6 - T4 - F8 Across left side T5 - T3 - F7 Blue strap in front of earlobes A2 & A1 Pull the top of each electrode away from the skin and apply gel from above. Move hair away from under the electrode. Apply a small amount of gel, rubbing the scalp with the tip of the syringe and bridging from the skin to the electrode foil. Apply enough gel to contact the entire electrode area, but not so much that the gel squeezes onto the elastic or drips. To prevent this, draw back on the plunger after applying the gel to each electrode. Connection of Pins to Headbox: Connect the wires in the sequence given in the chart below. Right and Left side instructions below refer to the patient's right and left sides. Note that odd numbered electrodes are positioned on the left side of the head and even numbers on the right side. First locate the leading edge of the right side ribbon wire: find the BROWN wire ON AN EDGE OF THE RIBBON. This is wire 1 and it connects to the A2 jack as shown. NOTE THAT THE BROWN AND RED COLORS OCCUR TWICE IN THE RIBBON AND BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE THE CORRECT BROWN WIRE. Wire 2 (to T4) is the RED wire next to that brown wire. The rest of the wires follow in the same sequence that they occur in the ribbon except that there is no pin for the blue wire. Do the left side wires the same way. First locate the leading edge wire, (wire 13 to A1) which is ORANGE and ON THE EDGE OF THE RIBBON. again be sure that you have the correct orange wire. Wire 14 (to T3) is the YELLOW wire next to that orange wire in the ribbon. The rest follow in sequence. RIGHT SIDE RIBBON WIRES: 1 BROWN (leading edge) A2 2 RED T4 3 ORANGE FP2 4 YELLOW F8 5 GREEN F4 6 BLUE Clipped - not used 7 VIOLET C4 8 GRAY FZ 9 WHITE P4 10 BLACK Gnd.(between FP1 & FP2) 11 BROWN O2 12 RED (edge wire) T6 LEFT SIDE RIBBON WIRES : 13 ORANGE (leading edge) 14 YELLOW 15 GREEN 16 BLUE 17 VIOLET 18 GRAY 19 WHITE 20 BLACK 21 BROWN 22 RED Gnd. (Between O1 & O2) 23 ORANGE 24 YELLOW (Edge wire) Care of EEG Headbands: Hand wash only with GL-12 gel and warm water. Place to dry on a clean dry wig head or head-shaped support that can be sterilized. Do not allow the rough side of the velcro to contact the elastic as this may cause premature wear due to fraying. Use the correct headband size for each patient's head to minimize stretching. if it is necessary to use a size too large, the slack may be taken up by clipping the strap with a paperclip between electrode positions. In this case the electrode position markings will be inaccurate. CAUTION: Observe proper infection control methods with these products. Suggested sterilization techniques are as follows: Gas sterilize or else discard syringe and headband. These products are classified as non-sterile. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
